Blogging For Beginners For Home Based Business Owners | By Col Johnson

Many in the network marketing and online business world are divided in their views on blogging. Some would deem it a must in order to get ‘yourself out there’ in the market place. Others would comment that it is a waste of time given the fact that there are an estimated 120,000 new blogs online per day. At that rate, is it worth the effort? Will people be interested?

People blog for all sorts of reasons. To keep friends and family up to date with their overseas adventures, to put their thoughts in writing, to get others considering their points of view. In business, people often blog to get their product or service out into the airwaves in an attempt to expose their goods to a wide market and potential customers. It is a wonderful way to do just that, as long as you have a sizeable readership.

One of the key motivations for many bloggers in the business sector is purely for the purposes of branding. Blogs can brand the author as an expert in their particular field. As people surf the net for information about certain topics and come across blog sites that provide them with what they are looking for, the blogger or site soon develops a reputation for superior knowledge. Thus, when the ‘surfer’ again is looking for the same or similar, they head back to the ‘expert’ for further advice. In many such cases if the blogger has a good or service on offer the surfer turns into a customer. In a high percentage of cases, the blog played a key role in the sale as the purchaser has developed a level of trust before buying.

Be mindful that your blogging will quickly be ignored if you simply ‘flog’ your wares. Provide your readers with valuable information that is of practical use to them. Provide a good service and quality material that benefits the reader. They need to walk away from your blog knowing more and feeling they have benefited from their visit to you. Doing this will win you the right to occasionally promote yourself and your opportunity as you have already proven yourself as one that is willing to give freely of your knowledge.

So, can blogging work in the home based business and network marketing arena? And if so, how can you ensure that people actually read what you have written? This answer is the dilemma of the network marketing blogger. Yes, Google and other search engines love the blog as continual fresh content is looked upon with considerable favour by the search engine spiders and crawlers. However, if you’re not a search engine optimising guru, and let’s face it, who is? Then the possibilities of a multitude of people finding you is certainly very limited.

So does that mean the game is over and blogging for the network marketer, business owner or service provider is over? Absolutely not! There are some simple ways that the novice can have their blog viewed on more occasions than they thought was possible.

Here’s a few pointers that may assist you boosting your readership significantly.

Firstly, commence by subscribing to social network sites such as My Space, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Linkedin, Friend Feed, Plaxo and the like.
