One of the most difficult type of questions to answer is the essay question. Typically essay questions have a high point value on tests and sometimes they are the only kind of questions on the test. Sometimes essay questions are given on worksheets and homework assignments. College applications also use essay questions to screen students. Here are ten tips to improve your answer and hopefully your grade.

1. Essay topics are not just topics you can simply find the answer in the book. The teacher is usually looking for you to use the information in the books or notes as a basis to support the conclusions you make in your essay. You need to have a good understanding of the topic to be able to apply it to a problem i.e. the essay question.

2. Make sure you answer the essay question. Often students will write what they know about the topic in general but never actually answer the stated question

3. Make sure you stay on topic – Sometimes students in an effort to gain some credit will find a related topic they are familiar with and write about that. Their hope is that they will gain some points but usually teachers are wise to this technique.

4. Follow the five w’s – Who, what, when, where and why are all going to part of your answer. In constructing a response to an essay consider each of these aspects of the question.

5. If you are asked how two concepts are related or how they are different don’t respond with a simple yes or no answer i.e yes they are related or no they are not. Explain how the relationship came to exist or how it works. Give examples if you can.

6. If you are asked to compare and contrast make sure you do both. Write about how and why these topics or subjects are related and how and why they are different.

7. Sometimes you are asked to make a recommendation. Don’t get wishy-washy make your answer sound assertive. The teacher has asked for your opinion and actually in this case wants to hear it (see it). Make sure you support your decision with evidence. What do you know about the topic that will support your decision and help convince the reader of your essay that your recommendation is the right one.

8. If you copy text word for word from another source, cite that source. Otherwise you will be guilty of plagiarism.

9. If your teacher specifies a length for the essay, keep your essay close to that length. Writing more is not going to get you any more points and the teacher make take off for not following instructions.

10. Follow the instructions – My father’s favorite quote was “If all else fails, follow the instructions.” So let’s say here “Don’t fail at all, read the instructions.”

Southern Seafood Pizza

1 Can Pillsbury French Bread Loaf
1 LB. Snow Crab Legs (Steamed)
1/2 LB. Shrimp (Steamed)
4 Whole Baby Portabella Mushrooms (Sliced)
1 Jar Alfredo Sauce (about half the jar)
Flour All Purpose (just enough to dust your pan)
Cheese (1/2 Cup) Shredded Cheese (what ever you have)
Cheese Parmesan Cheese

This is how pizza is done down south. Well, this is how I did a pizza in the south. It all started with a can of Pillsbury French Bread sitting in my refrigerator. I was looking at it and knew I wanted to make something with it. So I headed down to the store, and looked to see what would jump out at me. Well the Snow crabs were on sale and so were the shrimp, so the stage was set. The Baby Portabella Mushrooms were on sale to, so I snagged a pack of them too and headed home.

The shrimp were already steamed, but the crab legs needed some attention, so I set things up to steam them and smothered them in Old Bay Seasonings before I steamed them. They were done in about 6 minutes and once they sat for about an other 3 minutes I tore into them and got all of the meat out of the shells. While the crab legs were cooking I set up a baking sheet, with a sheet of aluminum foil, but the key here is, I did it upside down. It is, for me anyways, easier to work the dough with the pan upside down. Also get you oven preheated to 350 degrees.

I sprinkled some of the flour on the pan and opened the can of dough and very carefully unrolled it. If you look closely, there is a seam, and you can unroll it so it is a flat piece of dough. I supposed you could just buy a ready made pizza crust and adjust your ingredient sizes to accommodate that size crust. None the less, I used the unrolled French Bread and I stuck the pan with the now flat dough in the oven for about 7 minutes.

After 7 minutes, I pulled the pan out and very carefully flipped the dough over. The bottom, which is now the top is a bit more cooked then the top, now bottom. This works out perfect. I took the crab meat, shrimp and mushrooms and generously placed them everywhere. When I had completed that, I took my jar of Alfredo sauce and poured it on top of everything else, being very careful to make certain I covered everything. I then shoved it back in the over for 6 more minutes.

After 6 more minutes, I pulled it out and proceeded to pour the shredded cheese all over the top, once again, making sure to cover as much as possible. I used a Mexican 4 cheese blend, because it is what I had, but any shredded cheese should work for this recipe. I then stuck it back in the oven and basically watched it from that point. Since all oven are not the same, rather then giving a time limit for the final step, I’ll just say, keep an eye on it from this point. You just want the cheese to melt, but not burn. My oven took about 4 minutes for it to get the way I wanted it.

Get it back out, let it cool for about 5 minutes, top it with Parmesan cheese and hot sauce if you like it and have at it. You can cut it into 4 good size pieces. Good Eats and enjoy!

Many women today tout being a modern day superwoman. They cook, clean, raise the kids, work and volunteer in their churches and/or communities. This is the 21st Century feminist.

Feminism of the early 19th and 20th centuries espoused the rights of women to have a voice and thus to choose what they wanted to do with their lives: work or get married and have children. Women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Charlotte Perkins Gilman weren’t necessarily fighting for equality of the sexes, but rather the right of a woman to create her own destiny in a time that determined it for her: the silent, reproductive woman.

Since its founding in 1886, Cosmopolitan has been reporting on modern social trends.

The feminism of the mid 20th Century saw a major shift in ideology with the advent of technology. They wanted equality across the board. That meant access to jobs traditionally belonging to men, equal pay for equal work and being sexually free and choosing to not have a family. This Helen Gurley Brown generation supposedly burned their bras as a testament to how strongly they believed the Declaration of Independence was also talking about them when it said all “men” are created equal: men meaning humankind.

It’s 2009. Where is feminism now? Did women get their equal rights? According to a 2005 research report by the American Academy of University Women, “women working full time earn about 75 percent of what men working full time earn.” Health wise, women still live longer than men, but “Each year about 55,000 more women than men have strokes, and about 60 percent of total stroke deaths occur in women.” With regards to corporate America, they say the glass ceiling has finally been broken, yet “Currently, 12 FORTUNE 500 companies are run by women, and a total of 24 FORTUNE 1000 companies have women in the top job.” Teen pregnancy rates have been fluctuating over the last 10 years, but the STD rates are higher than ever it seems. In fact, 1 in 4 teen girls has an STD, according to the Center for Disease Control. Finally, the national divorce rate is still at 50% and the number one reason for divorce is…finances. Yet, the dating services industry is a multi-million industry.

The drawback itself being that by the time you actually meet in person the prospect, by now, you probably already so involved with this person, that it might not matter to you that they lied in the first place. That is what causes some people to be dishonest about their pictures or profile in the first place.

While most people are truthful when it comes to giving information, those 5% who decide to fudge their info do it for a reason. Some of those reasons may be innocent enough, but some surely are not. Take, for example, a sexual predator. A person like this may have joined an online dating community looking for their next “target” and, by giving false information, can most times succeed in hiding their past from their prospects. An online dater would have no way of knowing if the person they are interested in has a history or not. Now if the dater happened to meet in person the sexual predator posing as a prospect, the dater could be in a lot of danger and never know it. For this reason alone, it is always a good idea to check out anyone who you might be interested in meeting in person. Do some kind of background check, or Google them even if just to get the slightest bit of information you can on them. If nothing comes up, or if anything looks suspicious, always ask your prospect. It can save a lot in terms of time and, sometimes, even your life.

Online dating has become very popular over the years and with good reason. It is necessary, though, to keep in mind that there are dangers and drawbacks to consider, along with all of the obvious benefits. If you join an online site, have fun, but always remember to do your homework, because your “soul mate” may not be who they claim to be. It never hurts to check someone out once or twice, but not checking at all can kill.

This line is thin, however but has the strength necessary where the line will not be affected when tugged, nicked, or stuck in brush or rocks.

Lures – Well, this accessory to your largemouth bass fishing endeavors, is one of infinite possibilities. There are thousands upon thousands of different lures that can be used to catch a largemouth bass, however until you have the proper experience do not blow your wallet out on buying everything you see. Instead, concentrate on the three main categories of lures that are essential for now. These would be plastic worms, deep divers, and spinners. The shades that you should choose should simulate that of minnows, sunfish, or perch. Start with the knowledge of using noisy baits in the late eve and early morn. These may include lures with white or yellow fringed skirts, spinners, and buzz baits. Another thing you may attempt is the floating lure that twitches and may be retrieved or ceased at will.

I will explain in further detail how conditions, location, weather, time of day, and water temperature all affect your chances of landing that extreme largemouth bass, and teach you how to observe those conditions and incorporate the lures you use individually to suit the best outcome.

Do You Have a Firm Grip on Your Putter? | By Donald Saunders

One of the first things you learn when you start playing golf is how to grip a golf club and this simple lesson probably leads to more problems for students of golf than anything else when it comes to putting. Why? Simply because you do not want to hold the putter in the same way that you hold the other clubs in your bag. So how should you hold your putter?

Well, one of the most popular grips with both amateur golfers and tour professionals alike is what is known as the ‘reverse overlap grip’ which is specifically designed to keep the face of the putter square on to the arc of your putting stroke. So, let’s break the grip down into just four simple stages.

Stage 1. To understand this grip you need to think outside the box so start by holding the putter not in the traditional manner with the club face on the ground, but with it pointing straight up into the air with both hands on the grip and your hands held out in front of your face. I know it sounds crazy, but trust me

Stage 2. Adjust your hands so that your left hand only is on the putter handle with your thumb pointing down the shaft and all but your index finger wrapped around the handle. It is important that at this stage your index finger is held clear of the putter handle.

Stage 3. Now, take your right hand and once again with the thumb pointing down the shaft wrap the fleshy part of your hand around the closed fingers of your left hand so that you now have both hands on the club handle with your thumbs facing down the shaft of the putter and all of your fingers closed in the grip, except for the index finger of your left hand.

Stage 4. The final stage in the process is to slowly slide your right hand down the handle until it just covers your left thumbnail and leaves the index finger of your left hand overlapping the fingers of your right hand.

It takes a bit of practice to get this particular grip just right but, if you have been gripping your putter in the same way that you grip your other clubs, you will see an immediate improvement in your putting.

Just as a final note, if you are wondering why the otherwise standard grip does not work for putting, it is because the normal grip produces too much rotation on the club face which is the last thing you need when you want to putt in a straight line.

Unfairly or not, 9th grade science fair projects compete against those made by high school students, which can be intimidating for even the most accomplished 9th grade science whiz. Fortunately, the playing field can be leveled with the right science project that can compete head-on with others. But first, it is necessary to choose the type of science fair project you will take on. This makes the process of choosing the final science project so much easier since you have narrowed your choices down to a manageable level.

Experimentation

This is the most common type used in 9th grade science fair projects, which seek to answer a relatively straightforward question through the scientific method. Thus, you will observe and collect data, measure and organize it, construct a hypothesis and prediction, experiment with the variables, analyze the resulting data, make a model and finally, communicate the results. Of course, your venue for communication is the science fair. Fun examples of this type are the comparison of wood pellets for barbecues, determination of the best type of pesticide against crickets, and the evaluation of various types of water purification.

Demonstration

You will either confirm or invalidate the results of a previous experiment conducted by another scientist. In many instances, you do not have to replicate the processes previously employed as you can indeed improve upon them. Usually, demonstration type 9th grade science fair experiments can be culled from Internet resources, which have a rich abundance of full published studies made by other 9th graders. Examples include the improvement of jatropha oil properties and the explanation of the oscillating clock chemical reaction.

Research

As the name suggests, you collect relevant information about the chosen topic and then presenting your findings. Keep in mind that a good presentation for 9th grade science fair projects can make or break your science fair project so make it as best as you possibly can. To make it fun, you can use innovative presentation methods like a mini-play or a mini-demonstration. Or you can use more colorful materials to attract the attention of the observers and judges.

Model

If you want to stand out from among many 9th grade science fair projects, the best choice would be to go for the model type of project. You have to build a scale model to describe in visual and audio terms your chosen concept or principle. Examples include making a scale model of the tectonic plates to simulate earthquakes, constructing a baking soda volcano that spews vinegar, and building a solar toy car to explain its large-scale counterparts. Or to make it even more fun, you can invent something new! Don’t worry if it appears silly to others because the silliest of inventions often start a revolution. Think of the way Henry Ford revolutionized car manufacture.

Collection

If you are an avid collector of things, you can show them off but with an award-winning twist. For example, instead of showing just your bug specimen collection, explain how each one differs according to the season of the year it was collected, how its environment may have affected its growth and many other things.
