My Affiliate Marketing Story Can Inspire You | By Dan Ho

When we start a new business, we all harbor self-doubts. I was no different when I started building my online business between 7 to 8 years ago.

In fact, I knew nothing about how to do business online. I had no mentors. I had no friends who could show me the way. Of course, other people were doing business on the Internet, but I didn’t know any of them personally and I didn’t know who was the real deal and who was a scammer.

This is my affiliate marketing story.

So, there I was, desperate to make an income back in 2002. I tried doing some offline business with my dad, but you know how that goes. Within a week we were nearly at each other’s throats. I love my dad, but it’s very difficult to do business with your family, especially when you don’t see eye to eye. It can ruin the relationship entirely

So I left to strike it out on my own. I started looking at little classified ads on Yahoo! in the business section if you can believe that. I mean that place is fraught with scams! I was just too naive to know any better.

But I came across an incredible company — that I still promote today! They have a word class affiliate program. Of course, at the time I didn’t know what an affiliate program was, but they explained the concept to me and it made a lot of sense.

So that was the beginning of my affiliate marketing career. I must admit I did a lot of due diligence. Several months of emails and phone calls passed before I decided I trusted them enough to move ahead.

I slowly learned the ropes. I wish I had a mentor, I could have progressed much faster, but the amazing thing about affiliate marketing is that it’s not that difficult. Really.

That is, once you learn the fundamentals.

A couple of years later, I was promoting several companies and known as a “super affiliate.” That’s just a high falutin’ way of saying I was selling a lot of products for various companies and collecting big checks.

If you think I had it tough, there’s one little fact I didn’t share with you yet. When I started, my wife was about to give birth to twin boys! So there I was, trying to figure out and build an affiliate marketing business empire while taking care of two little babies all day. My wife’s maternity leave seemed like it was over before it started.

So believe me when I tell you if I could do it, so can you. No knowledge. No mentor. Little money. And two babies to take care of. That was my reality.

Nowadays I make a multiple six figure a year passive, hands off income. I don’t say that to brag. I’m just telling you what’s possible if you stick it out.

You’re actually in a really good position now because as the industry has evolved, the techniques of how to do affiliate marketing properly have been tested and proven over and over. There are still scams out there but many of them have been weeded out. When I first started, marketing online was still like the Wild Wild West.

So, if you are inspired by my affiliate marketing story, then I suggest you sit down, give it some serious thought, and if you truly want it, go after your dreams and don’t let anyone hold you back.
